Samsung Gear Fit 2 and Gear IconX Officially Released
When you speak of Samsung it strikes the mind of its superb technology and innovation in its tech gadgets. This South Korean tech brand company is now moving ahead as it announced the Gear s2 classic 3G which marks as the world’s first in eSIM technology.
The Samsung Gear Fit2 pre-order kicked off in the United States at an event in New York. The fitness tracking band costs US$179.99 (AU$245). Samsung unveiled its successor to the original Gear Fit fitness band. Alongside, Samsung also announced its wireless earbuds called the Gear IconX. As for the Gear IconX, you will have to wait till the third quarter of this year when it starts selling.
While the original Gear Fit, which was introduced in 2014, boasted significant features, it had some drawbacks. However, it stands a pretty good chance against Fitbit Flex, with great features of a fitness tracker combined in a watch.
Samsung adopted the same fitness formula used in the Gear Fit and polished it up with new features in the Gear Fit 2. Having said that, it is worth mentioning that the Samsung Gear S2 is another stellar wearable that boasts world’s first device with eSIM.
Gear Fit 2 Specifications
This latest fitness wearable from Samsung combines roomy touchscreens of a smartwatch with the affordability and battery life of a fitness band. Having a 1.5-inch AMOLED waterproof touchscreen display with a resolution of 216x432pixels., the wearable tucks in a map interface, leaderboards and visualizations for your activity targets into the screen space.
The other features include a built-in GPS that allows you to track locations from your fitness tracker without tethering the tracker to your smartphone. It has got an impressive 4GB storage space. Music lovers will be happy to know the tracker enables a Spotify app that lets you stream tunes, but it is possible only if you use Wi-Fi connection on the band from your phone.
It uses a combination of sensors like standalone GPS and heart rate monitor. Moreover, the users can “track and monitor 15 different activities including Exercise bike, Step machine, Treadmill, Pilates, Yoga, Lunges, Crunches and Squats, among others.”
It is powered by 512MB of RAM and 1GHz dual-core processor. It features a 200 mAh battery that can lasts up to three days or 5 days of standby time. Designed with Tizen, Android 4.4 KitKat and S Health app, the Gear Fit 2 claims impressive performance.
Apart from GPS, other connectivity options include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The device has IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and weighs just 30g. The all new Samsung Gear Fit2 pre-order is now live on Samsung’s official website.
The wearable is available in three color options, pink, blue and black. The best part is the wristband appears in two sizes, small and large, states the company’s official press release.
Samsung Gear IconX Specifications
The Gear IconX, which is yet to arrive in the market towards the end of this year, is a Bluetooth enabled wireless earbud. The moment you place the earbuds in your ears, the device gets activated. It comes with 4GB of native space and lets users listen to songs for an uninterrupted 1.5 hours. It can even sync health data with S Health app on your tracker.
